About the Department for Bacteria, Parasites and Fungi
The positions are located in Bioinformatics Section as part of the Department for Bacteria, Parasites and Fungi at Statens Serum Institut. The department's purpose includes monitoring of bacterial infections in humans, monitoring of antibiotic resistance in bacteria, providing specialized diagnostic testing, and research and includes multiple specialties: bioinformaticians, data scientists, software developers, epidemiologists, microbiologists, and molecular biologists.

The position
As System Administrator you will be responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and managing our software, hardware, and networks. The ideal candidate will have a background in working with bioinformatics IT infrastructure and a deep understanding of the unique IT needs of a bioinformatics company.

You will be working closely with other new hires and two existing employees with similar skill sets. This is part of a larger team that has over 20 members. The tasks related to your job will be dynamic and you will be exposed to all aspects of data infrastructure with your work.

Responsibilities
Your responsibility will mainly be to:

  • Install and configure software and hardware
  • Management of bioinformatics software and services including troubleshooting for non-bioinformaticians
  • Support and documentation in both Danish and English
  • Manage network servers and technology tools
  • Set up accounts and workstations
  • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
  • Troubleshoot issues and outages
  • Ensure security through access controls, backups, and firewalls
  • Upgrade systems with new releases and models
  • Develop expertise to train staff on new technologies.
Your education, experience and qualifications
We prefer that you have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or related field. In addition to this, we expect you to have:

  • Years of experience in a systems administration or a related field
  • Years of experience in bioinformatics in a scientific research environment
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics software, tools, and databases
  • dProven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role
  • Language: Danish and English
  • Knowledge of system security (e.g., intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
  • Familiarity with various Linux operating systems.
Furthermore, we prefer that you are:

  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

Terms of employment
The employments will be in accordance with the terms of current agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and Organization of Academics.

The position is temporary, full-time (2.5-year contract).
