You will join our Port, Marine and Coastal Engineering department

As our new Chief Coastal Engineer, you will join a highly recognized marine team, with excellent collaboration with municipalities, contractors, port owners and renewable developers worldwide. You will be part of a diverse international department at Ramboll global headquarters in Copenhagen, and work on major coastal and marine projects across all stages from planning to detailed design together with our team of highly engaged and specialized engineers throughout Ramboll. As chief coastal engineer you are part of the department management team and develop both strategy and staff competences in the field of coastal engineering.

We have a significant pipeline of national and international coastal and marine projects with a determined focus to make the coastal and marine world resilient and future -fit.
Currently we are leading several major coastal and marine projects in Europe and overseas, ensuring climate resilience, flood protection and the blue-green energy transition, such as the flood protection strategy for greater Copenhagen, coastal impact assessment for Gdansk port extension and many MetOcean studies and sediment spill assessments world wide.

Our department works with a broad spectrum of coastal and marine projects, from feasibility studies, EIAs, coastal planning and design to implementation supervision. Our team is well balanced between senior experts, project managers, specialists and newly graduates. You will receive a warm welcome of co-workers passionate about their field of expertise. Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Engaged in the department management, develop the coastal engineering team further, and implement the strategy with focus on resilience, renewables, net-zero and nature inclusive design
  • Drive the development and innovation of our coastal and hydraulic modelling skillset as a team effort
  • Lead hydraulic modelling assignments of all aspects, supporting EIAs, MetOcean studies and diverse marine projects. 
  • Take responsibility for technical project delivery as discipline lead/project manager from proposal stage to client handover
  • Maintain the highest level of quality in our deliverables
  • Promote our capabilities in the market and discover new market areas
  • Co-create closely with clients and stakeholders, focussing on value creation
  • Act as role model for our younger team members

Your starting point for constant growth

From the moment you join Ramboll, we will support your personal and professional development so that you grow with the company. For this role, we believe your starting point is:

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or similar)
  • 8+ years proven experience in relevant coastal and marine expertise, such as MetOcean analysis, hindcast modelling, hydraulic numerical modelling, design of beaches, islands and coastal structures
  • Extensive experience with both traditional design and building with nature 
  • Comprehensive insight in relevant codes and design methodology
  • Large experience with complex multidisciplinary coastal projects, such coastal protection over long stretches, flood defences and artificial island port extensions
  • Great communication skills - English and Danish at a professional level
  • You thrive in a collaborative work environment with many stakeholders
  • Sustainability is on top of your mindset, and you actively want to investigate and apply green and resilient solutions
  • Your skillset is respected in the market and you have built up a valuable network, enabling you to understand clients needs and market trends.

Personal qualities, that will ensure you succeed in this role include an open mindset and the ability to both work independently and as a team player.
You are a confident communicator and enjoy pushing the innovation and technical excellence to the next level as well as motivating younger engineers and onboard them on the coastal engineering journey.
