The general objective of the action in West African countries, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Mali and Niger, is to contribute to the promotion of peaceful and inclusive societies by improving confidence between the population and the security forces. We work mainly with key human rights state actors, such as the national security forces, CSOs and NHRIs, and support them in exercising their mandate and/or mission effectively and in a human rights’ compliant way.
You will be working in the West Africa team in the Human Rights, Africa Department. Your role will be to support the Department Director and Team Leader in a variety of programme and project related tasks. Our work requires that you are diligent and a fast learner, you have excellent communication skills, and you are fluent both in English and in French. You should feel comfortable communicating across different countries and cultures.
You should be flexible and intrigued by the idea to be of handling a broad variety of tasks at the same time. You should find languages and translation tasks motivating which is why you should feel comfortable writing in both French and in English. It should be raised that the workload as well as the scope of your task strongly depend on the student’s motivation.
MAIN TASKS FOR WEST AFRICA TEAM STUDENT ASSISTANT
- Assist Department Director, Team Leader, Project Manager, and local offices in daily project tasks
- Assist in translations into French, both spoken and written
- Assist in translation into English, both spoken and written
- Assist in writing internal newsletters, articles for the Institute’s website, etc.
- Assist with document filing and organisation
- Assist with planning of visits, meetings, and support with practical tasks
- Assist with ad hoc tasks in the West Africa Team
- Assist Accounting Team, Project Manager, and local financial officers in daily financial project tasks
- Assist the project manger with monthly financial reporting of local offices and partners
- Assist with financial monitoring of project progress
- Assist with document filing and organisation
- Assist with expenses overview
- Currently enrolled in a university programme
- Excellent communication and writing skills in both French and English is a requirement. Language skills will be tested during the job interview.
- Danish is an advantage
- You should be organised and structured
- Ability to work independently and thoroughly on various tasks as well as in cooperation with others
- Experience with Excel and ESDH 360° will be considered an asset
Salary is set in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Union of Commercial and Clerical Employees in Denmark.
The weekly work time is 15 hours two days a week on average. We would like you to start as soon as possible, ideally by mid- July 2023.
